SALT MINES OF MARAS: salt mines of great scenic beauty as old as the Inca empire
Information
These salt mines and their exploitation are as old as the Inca empire. Located on the slope of the hill, the salt mines, in the form of terraces or platforms, are filled with underground salt water, which pools in each platform and when it dries, it provides a delicious white and pink salt, to which medicinal properties are attributed.
The Maras salt mines are located in the town of Maras, where the Moray Archaeological site is also located, so both places are visited on the same day.
