Cultures that lived before the Incas saw the need to transport themselves from one point to another in order to exchange products, this prompted them to build roads.
When the Inca empire spread across the territory of what is now Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia and Argentina, they saw the need to improve existing roads and increase them to connected the capital of the Inca empire “Cusco” with all the territory of the Incas known at that time as Tawantinsuyo.
These roads are now known as Qapac ñan, which in English would be the Inka trail, all of these roads cover more than 3000 kilometers. With the arrival of the Spanish, the civil wars of the last years of the empire and currently the growth of the population has caused them to disappear, the Ministry of Culture of Peru is faced with the difficult task of restoring and protecting them.
